24V LED spotlights for the smart home
Recessed LED spotlights – better known as LED spots – are the epitome of classic yet modern lighting. Since the advent of LEDs, they have become very economical and compact light sources. In other words, the ceiling spots impress with their high efficiency and directional light. By using secondary optics, the beam angle of the LEDs is focused and you only have light where you need it. This contrasts with the familiar light bulb, which emits its light at a solid angle of 360°.
Another significant advantage of LED spots is the “uncluttered” ceiling. This form of lighting blends unobtrusively into the interior design of the building. In order to give this aspect due consideration – but also to provide the opportunity for deliberate statements – we offer the 24V LED spots in numerous designs and color combinations. Our credo is: “The decision should clearly lie with the customer and not the retailer!”
What are the advantages and disadvantages of recessed spotlights?
In the following, we deliberately look at 24V spots (and not 230V), as the advantages are even more apparent here:
Advantages
- 24V LED spotlights in particular are perfectly dimmable, using so-called PWM dimmers! Universal dimmers are required for 230V spots.
- No flickering(light flickering) with 24V recessed spotlights, even at the lowest dimming level far below 1%
- Very long service life, as no high-voltage components are installed
- High efficiency thanks to modern LED technology –> Low energy consumption
- Directed light cone of 60°, i.e. light is only where it is needed
- No emitted heat and UV radiation in the light beam
- More possibilities than with classic lighting, both adjustable white tones and colored lighting can be easily implemented
- Depending on the model, these can be swiveled
- Versatile use and large selection of recessed spotlights available
- No risk of electric shock, as a safe voltage of 24V is used
Disadvantages
- The power loss of the LEDs (see LED tutorial) is not emitted with the light beam, heat sinks and thermal management must be well dimensioned.
- Existing 230V wiring must be converted to 24V. A power supply unit is required for this
- Due to the high level of competition, there are also numerous poor-quality products on the market. It is more difficult for customers to recognize good development, production and quality.
Our LED spot technologies:
Our NEW Dim to Warm technology allows you to continuously change the light color from a neutral white to a warm, cozy light via a single dimming channel, creating the perfect atmosphere for every moment. And all this in one LED spotlight!
Let the quality and reliability of Emilum products convince you and create the perfect lighting mood for any room.
The perfect solution for individual lighting moods. RGBW technology (red, green, blue, white) has revolutionized LED lighting and offers numerous advantages that go far beyond conventional lighting. From the wide range of colors, improved color rendering (compared to RGB) to a long service life, our RGBW spots offer TOP quality and create the right color for your mood with the highest quality of light.
Tunable White LED technology enables dynamic adjustment of the light temperature. In conjunction with our in-house 24V dimmers, dimming intensity and light temperature can be set separately. Our LED spotlights provide lighting ranging from a warm, cozy light(2200K) to a cool white(5700K). Whether for everyday use or a cozy evening on the couch, our tuneable white spotlights create the right mood.
When it comes to LED spotlights for the smart home, the quality of light should be the top priority. The color temperature is particularly important. A color temperature of 2700K – or simply put: warm white – is ideal for the living area. This light color, known from traditional light bulbs, creates a pleasant and calming atmosphere that is appreciated by many of our customers.
What is special about our ceiling spots?
When developing the LED spots, we wanted to go one step further than what is currently available on the market. We used our in-house lighting laboratory and spent a lot of time there. There are three components that are in great contradiction to each other: high efficiency, high color rendering index and low price. To put it simply, if you optimize one of these parameters, the other two deteriorate. And this is precisely where we applied the lever and did not let up.
We took a completely new approach and focused on the secondary parameters (thermal design, degradation, etc.) during development. This was the only way we were able to do without the usual compromise! What does this mean for you?
Firstly, fewer spots – and therefore lower follow-up costs as less wiring and construction work is required. Secondly, a more natural, better light thanks to a brilliant color rendering index (>90). Thirdly, a highly efficient ceiling spotlight at a fair price!
What are the hard facts about the LED spots?
Regardless of the model, you can choose the light color yourself. Do you prefer the cozy warm white (2700K)? Neutral white (4000K) is also available, or you can choose the tunable white version. Here, the light temperature can be controlled between 2200K and 5700K, i.e. from warm to neutral to cool white. The tunable white version emits exactly the same amount of light (and consumes the same electrical power) as the unicolor versions! Even if both LED circuits are accidentally fully activated. This means that the LEDs are neither overloaded nor is there any loss of brightness due to a reduction in light in advance! We have developed and included our own electronic hardware circuit for this purpose. The colour gradient in the white tones can thus be implemented just as perfectly as the “dim to warm” function! You can find out more about CCT LED spots in our knowledge article
The LED spots are also available as RGBW (= “full color”) versions. Here, too, the same circuit is included as with the tunable white spots. Finally, it should be added that all the ceiling spots mentioned above have exactly the same beam characteristics in warm white. In other words, you can mix the spots in one and the same room and not notice any difference in the basic lighting!
What are the differences between these recessed spotlights?
Before we get to the differences, let’s quickly look at a very important similarity! Both LED spot families can be excellently dimmed and adjusted with 24V!
Even set mixed colors can be dimmed and do not change color at low brightness. As you can see from the competition, this is not a matter of course. In addition to the excellent color rendering index, both families are characterized by enormous efficiencies. Especially with such brilliant light, this usually falls by the wayside. But now let’s look at the differences:
LED spot 24V, 8W:
The focus here is clearly on efficiency and high light output. The built-in light engine delivers over 850lm with a CRI of >90! (almost equivalent to the brightness of a 100W light bulb) and all this with less than 8W. When it comes to light output and the appropriate installation depth, these ceiling spots are the right choice for living rooms and other rooms! The LED spotlight is available in different colors and blends perfectly and harmoniously into your interior design with its clear design. It is therefore the perfect LED spotlight for the ceiling in your home!
LED-SwingSpot 24V, 5W:
This swivel spot is operated with less power and therefore has slightly fewer lumens than the 8W spot. But don’t be fooled, the built-in light engine is just as efficient as the other LED spots. These ceiling spots are characterized by a much smaller installation depth! However, the light output does not need to hide here – just compare the lumens (not the watts – watts were yesterday) with those of the competition.

To help you choose your recessed spotlights efficiently, we have collected the 10 best tips for LED spotlights. The quick and easy way to perfect light!
How many recessed spotlights do I need?
To calculate the number of ceiling spots, we essentially needed 3 points:
- The room size: larger rooms require more recessed luminaires than smaller ones.
- How is the room used, or in other words, which room is it? For example, more light is needed in the kitchen, bathroom and study than in a bedroom or hallway.
- The brighter the LED spotlight, the fewer units you need to install in the room. The luminous flux (unit: lumen) and not the power (watt) is taken into account here, as the efficiency of the recessed spotlight is not taken into account.
Our free tool does most of the work for you. Simply enter the above parameters and you will immediately receive the required number of spots for the room.
What do I need to look out for when wiring LED spots?
With 24V LED spotlights in particular, the so-called voltage drop should be taken into account. Put simply, each cable loses some voltage due to its resistance. The longer the cable and the smaller the cable cross-section, the greater the loss. If this calculation is to be carried out correctly, a very detailed calculation is required. Often this is not done and at the end of the day there is disillusionment.
This is exactly where our free cabling tool, the spot calculator, comes in. Simply enter the number of spots, the Distance between the spots and enter the length of the supply cable. The result is a clear presentation of which cable cross-sections are suitable!
Which power supply unit do I need for the LED recessed spotlights?
The calculator also provides the answer to this question. Simply enter the required number of different spots. The number and type of power supply unit will then be determined.
Incidentally, other LED lights – such as LED strips, LED wall lights, LED ceiling lights) can also be entered additionally
