The Emilum light lab: for our products and theirs
In the past, the exact measurement of light was reserved for an elite circle due to the costs involved. In the meantime, however, technical progress has enabled prices to be reduced. We are happy to make our extensive range of measuring equipment available to you. This allows you to stand out from your competitors and take on a pioneering role in the market with your product.
We compile all the relevant data for high-quality lighting design. This includes e.g. Eulum data, UGR value, spectral data, CRI etc. This enables lighting designers, architects and electrical installation companies to create well-founded concepts.
With state-of-the-art measuring equipment, such as our goniophotometer, we are able to offer high-precision and reproducible luminaire measurements/light measurements. Our lighting laboratory staff place the highest value on quality and sustainability in the measurements. They provide support and advice in the early stages of planning and development. Our measurements and test reports provide you, the customer, with all the important information you need to design a product from prototype to series production. Our comprehensive range of services supports you in this.
A goniophotometer is an optical measuring instrument that measures the light emitted by a light source at different angles. All relevant parameters of the luminaire/light source are measured precisely. These include the light distribution curve, color curves, total luminous flux, CRI (color rendering index), UGR, efficiency, effectiveness and much more. The measuring range extends beyond the visual range of the human eye, which means that horticulture measurements are also possible.
The goniophotometer is a versatile measuring instrument from our lighting laboratory. It supports the development of new luminaires/lamps as well as the validation of calculation data and quality assurance.
The data from the goniophotometer can be made available in various file formats (IES, LDT, CSV, PDF). This enables simple integration into light calculation programs such as Relux, Dialux,… is possible.
- Create facts -> Spectral values, UGR values, CRI and much more.
- Adaptation of optics, radiation characteristics
- Periodic inspections for quality assurance
-
Empirical measurements of various superstructures
- Optimization of the efficiency of the Lightengine

Handheld spectrometer
Our mobile light measurements (handheld spectrometer) are often used for professional on-site validations. Over 40 different parameters/measured variables(flicker, CRI, color coordinates, spectrum, etc.) can be measured precisely and the preliminary calculations checked.
Equipped with our goniophotometer (stationary in our light laboratory in Salzburg), we can create and evaluate exact, reproducible data.
Color spectrum
In addition to the entire color spectrum, the dominant wavelength of the luminaire is also determined.
Illuminance and
color temperature
Are the most important values of good and pleasant lighting
various color space systems
Your measurement object can be measured in various color spaces (CIE 1931, CIE1976, X/Y coordinates,…)
CRI - Color rendering index Ra
In addition to the overall CRI, you also receive all the values for the 14 test colors that make up the CRI
Color consistency
MacAdam Ellipses (SDCM) and ANSI78.377
This allows you to check whether color deviations are still within the standard deviation
Flicker measurements
This checks whether the light flicker is in the dangerous range and which frequencies/intensities occur
Light calculations
As an optional service, we are happy to offer you lighting calculations for your projects/products. We can also support you in calculating the light control using optics, reflectors or light guides.
Finally, the calculations can be checked in the Emilum light laboratory. Depending on the application, this is possible with the mobile measuring device or with a goniophotometer.
Why does Emilum operate its own light laboratory?
The answer is quite simple: because we supply LED luminaires and LED products of the highest quality and regular measurement of the optical parameters is essential for this! Admittedly, you could always go to a lighting laboratory to measure them, but if you have them in-house, you use them much more often. In other words, this means that you can actually optimize the details of each luminaire!
In addition, we see this as an essential part of quality assurance and can also check how better cooling affects the lights.
Admittedly, operating and maintaining our own lighting laboratory is expensive, but we see it as absolutely necessary in order to be able to supply luminaires and LED lamps of the highest quality!

Production
We will be your reliable partner from prototype production in-house, through production transfer to series production of your product. Does your product require recurring light measurements across different production batches? We also offer this service and can thus ensure your proven quality. Our production could also be of interest to you in other ways
