Relay actuator: switches more than just the light
The relay actuator is the classic in home automation. Long before the term smart home became established on the market, relays were already doing their job to make the home safe and comfortable. Typical applications have always included controlling blinds, opening and closing the garage door/entrance gate and simply switching the lighting. The 16-channel DMX relay actuator, as a representative of the Emilum LED product range, is the epitome of our company motto ✓ safe ✓ simple ✓ smart
Relay actuator: Smart
With the smart home, however, completely new areas of application have also been added. For example, the relay actuator shows its strengths in mains disconnection as well as in reducing stand-by consumption. For example, unused power supply units in unoccupied rooms can be deactivated. A now very popular application is the central off: For this application, a switch/button is usually located by the front door. Subsequently, the desired loads (e.g. electric stove, washing machine, all lighting, …) are disconnected from the mains with a single click.
Due to the wide range of applications and possible uses, a fair (channel) price with technical sophistication and a sophisticated product is therefore very important to us! Thanks to the simple and standardized DMX bus, the DMX relays can be integrated cheaply and easily. Nothing stands in the way of subsequent universal use!
Relay actuator: Safe
All 16 relays can not only be switched independently of each other, but are also arranged in a compact design in the device. This reduces the space required in the control cabinet to a minimum, despite the wide range of applications.
Furthermore, the relay switching actuator can be supplied with a variable voltage of 12 – 48V. Regardless of this, all connected voltages from 5V to 24V to 230V are switched on the secondary side. These voltages can also be mixed on a relay actuator as required.
Nevertheless, each output (these are normally open contacts) is switched separately with up to 16A. To ensure that the maximum switching current of the relay is not exceeded, the installation is protected with a suitable automatic circuit breaker.
Relay actuator: Simple
Easy integration into the house network via DMX bus and control via DMX data.
In the standard configuration, the value 0 switches the DMX relay off and any higher value switches the relay on. Therefore, nothing more is required. Of course, the RDM protocol is also available. The relay actuator can also be parameterized, documented and evaluated as required.
Of course, the tried-and-tested manual mode from Emilum (e.g. LV dimmer, HV dimmer) is also available with this product.
In other words, the relay actuator can also be operated while still in the construction phase. In any case, the manual mode also works if the smart home system should fail. Although this is not the rule, a back-up still does no harm.
Smart home relay applications
What are relays used for now, or in other words, what are the applications of relays in the smart home?
- Shading, such as blinds, external venetian blinds, roller blinds, etc.
- Relay for LED lighting that is not dimmed
- Garage door, entrance gate
- Pumps, garden irrigation
- Sockets, connected devices
- Gas boiler, boiler
- Mains disconnection, coupling relay
- Reduce standby power by disconnecting the loads
