Behind the scenes of magic: the lighting production of the musical Chicago at the Komische Oper Berlin with 24V LED bulbs
The stage is a place of magic, where the boundaries between reality and fantasy become blurred. The stage of the Komische Oper Berlin became the setting for a magical production of the musical Chicago. As stage designer, Michael Levine realized the wishes of star director Barry Kosky to perfection. This masterpiece became an unforgettable experience not only thanks to the brilliant performance, but also thanks to an innovative lighting design with unique 24V LED bulbs.
The magic of collaboration:
The musical Chicago, known for its captivating plot and rousing music, requires a stage production that is just as impressive as the story itself. For this project, the Komische Oper Berlin – or rather Mr. Olaf Freese as the responsible lighting designer – approached us to conjure up true magic on stage.
The collaboration began with intensive discussions about the vision of the stage design. The result was a fascinating combination of art and technology. The 24V E27 light bulb, developed and manufactured for this performance, gave the musical a new dimension of stage design.
Our pride in this project and the emotional connection to the Komische Oper Berlin are reflected in each of these unique LED light bulbs. From brainstorming to realization, it was a journey full of passion and dedication.
24V LED bulb: technology in perfection:
The 7000pcs of special LED bulbs have been selected not only for their impressive number, but also for their technological sophistication.
Each bulb was fitted with our state-of-the-art 24V LED technology to ensure precise control and dimmability. Our Flicker-Free technology was crucial to ensure a seamless and enjoyable visual experience for viewers.
Flicker-Free means that the 24V LED bulbs are operated at a frequency that is not perceived by the human eye. This results in flicker-free lighting, which is not only easy on the eyes but also creates an immersive atmosphere.
Incidentally, the 24V light bulbs were supplied in the usual E27 socket (you can find an overview of light bulb sockets here). This meant that inexpensive standardized sockets could be used and, above all, the flair of the stage design matched!
The lighting control system, supported by 1500 bespoke control electronics, allowed each LED bulb to be individually controlled and dimmed. This not only created an impressive visual presentation, but also gave each scene of the musical a unique atmosphere.

This groundbreaking collaboration between the Komische Oper Berlin and our LED light bulb illustrates not only technological mastery, but also artistic vision. The project has shown that every light bulb can not only be a light source, but an artist on stage.
