What is CCT?
CCT stands for Correlated Color Temperature or Controlled Color Temperature, describes the color impression of white light and describes the color temperature control.
CCT color control makes it possible to dynamically change the light color of white light – i.e. whether the light appears warm, neutral or cold. The color temperature is specified in Kelvin (K).
The light color ranges from warm white (below 3000K) to neutral white (approx. 4000K) to cool white (from 5500K). A low Kelvin number therefore means warm, yellowish light, while a high Kelvin number stands for cool, bluish light.
How does CCT LED work?
CCT LEDs work with two LED chips with different color temperatures – one warm white and one cool white. Both circuits can be dimmed independently and therefore mixed continuously. Depending on the proportion, this creates a color temperature between warm and cool light.
By controlling the CCT LED separately, both the brightness and the color temperature can be set separately from each other.
A 2-channel dimmer is therefore required to control CCT luminaires. PWM dimmers are used to control the brightness and intensity of the two color tones using pulse width modulation.
