LED spotlight for the smart home

What does the perfect LED spotlight for the smart home need to offer?

The quality of light should be the top priority of an LED spotlight for the smart home!
The first thing people usually think about is the color temperature. 2700K (Kelvin) – or in less technical terms: warm white – is usually the light color in the living area. Users are familiar with this color temperature from the good old light bulb and it has a pleasant, calming effect.

If there is no need for additional light colors, the classic warm white LED spot can be selected here. However, if the color temperature needs to be variable – whether even warmer, cooler or a neutral white, then the decision falls on a tuneable white LED spotlight. If you also want to set color accents, an RGBW LED spotlight with its 16.7 million colors is the right choice (see video above).
The next important point on the subject of light quality is the color rendering index CRI. Unfortunately, this is far too rarely taken into account, which is simply due to ignorance, even among specialist luminaires. However, it is quite easy to understand: simply explained, this value indicates how unadulterated all illuminated colors are reproduced. This is a “percentage value”, i.e. the higher the better and 100 is the maximum.

Efficiency vs. quality - the compromise has been resolved

In addition to the points mentioned above, an LED spotlight for the smart home must also impress with the total luminous flux emitted and its efficiency. A value of approx. 100lm/W should already be achieved here, with a CRI > =90 and a color temperature of 2700K. If the color temperature is colder (e.g. 4000K) or the CRI is lower (e.g. 80), then the efficiency increases by a further 15%.
The LED spot WW clearly meets the hurdle with 810lm (see article“Watts were yesterday“) at 8W, as the spot can also be operated with 7.2W without any loss of light. The constant current control of the LEDs guarantees a constant lumen output even with a lower or higher voltage supply.
The special optics with reflector and diffuser create a discreet look and produce a wonderful light image.
The spotlight is controlled using a PWM dimmer. Our dimmer is perfect for up to 36 LED spotlights for the smart home on a single device!
